Pulitzer prize winning New York Times reporter Eric Lichtblau will deliver a keynote lecture entitled "Combating Terrorism: Not Quite Yesterday's News" at California State University, San Bernardino on Friday, May 8, 2009 at noon in the San Manuel Student Union Theater Rm. 107. The event is free and open to the public, but there is a parking fee.
Eric Lichtblau has been a Washington, DC based New York Times correspondent since September 2002. He covers the Justice Department and has been among the most tenacious journalists reporting on the government's programs countering terrorism and their critical civil liberties implications. For his work in uncovering the Bush administration's secret surveillance programs he, along with his reporting partner James Risen, were awarded print journalism's highest honor, the Pulitzer Prize in 2006 for national reporting. He is the author of the widely acclaimed book, Bush's Law, which chronicles the government's post 9/11 domestic counter-terror efforts. Center director Brian Levin called the book, "arguably the most important book on the most critical legal issue of the decade." Previously, Mr. Lichtblau was at the Los Angeles Times for 15 years, where he also covered the Justice Department in the Washington bureau from 1999 to 2002. Before that, he did stints on the investigative team in Los Angeles and covered various law enforcement beats. Mr. Lichtblau was born in Syracuse,and graduated from Cornell University in 1987 with a BA in both English and political science.
