Anti-Islam Hate Finds An Audience in the United States

Gert Wilders, a controversial Dutch politician and film producer (Fitna) who has been banned from some countries, has been touring Florida allegedly telling audiences that Europe is on "the verge of collapsing" due to Muslims. "Islam is not a religion...Islam is a totalitarian  ideology." Comparing the Koran to Mein Kampf, he reportedly told an audience,"The Koran is a book that calls for hatred, violence, murder, terrorism, war and submission" and urged a forced assimilation contract, a ban on new mosques and a closure of Muslim schools. That same week San Francisco radio talk show host Michael Savage heavily promoted the possibility that swine flu was possibly the result of an extremist Muslim plot.  Center Director Brian Levin said, "Free speech rightfully protects even conspiratorial haters to exploit fears from stereotypes, and animus from half truths. It also requires that  people of good will completely repudiate such contemptible manifestations of Islamaphobia in the strongest terms possible, which I gladly do."
